This unit i struggled with at first i kept associating surface decoration with bags and pillows and things that were textiles and that is something i don't have much interest in. When i let go and started looking at other artists that work outside textiles i realized surface decoration is anything that is on a surface.... duh.
I ended up, after experimenting, liking the idea of having something on a wall in an urban setting. I started making collages ( in previous blogs) that i felt worked with a rural and urban theme.
I felt really happy with these, i was glad i found my interest in this unit. This year i have definitely found a love for digital collage and loved that i got to use it in this unit.
I found it interesting how things work with scale. I could like a collage but when put on a wall it didn't look right. I liked the process of this. I defiantly like thinking about how my work goes into a space - its something i want to think about next year.
If i could change one thing i would have spent longer looking at artists that were away from textiles at the start of this unit.
