Alice Potter
I decided to start my research with Alice Potter. I was interested in Alice Potter's work because it is very different to what i usually look at.
Potter is a London based freelance illustrator and children's wear print designer. Design is something i am not sure i have an eye for, i do appreciate it but i don't tend to find myself attracted to it, or give it as much thought as i probably should.

I love the colours in this one above, i like how simple it is, but it still translates as an apple. I like the dot print i think it adds a kind of sweetness to the design as well as add something to the flatness of it.
I really like these, i love how happy they look because of the use of colour.
Potter draws her work out in her sketch book and then moves onto illustrator where she uses the pen tool to make simple shapes and adds colour. I really like this technique, i have been doing a bit of this for my illustration unit but with Photoshop as i don't have illustrator at home but will be experimenting with it when i get back to college.
I wanted to quickly try this technique as i have not used such simple shapes before and i had an urge to try it.
i decided to just use fruit and keep it very very simple.

I decided to try something similar out. Like Potter i decided to draw it out first in my sketch book.
I then took a photo of it and put it on photoshop and started colouring it in... I added a new layer and traced around the shapes i had drawn. I then started editing the shapes adding colour and using the cut out filter to get a solid colour.
It is so much harder than it looks....
I love this technique, it is very enjoyable to sit and draw and then work digitally. I like making the repeat patterns and i will use this for my surface pattern unit also. It is a lot more difficult that it looks and i am excited to try on illustrator when i get back to college.
