Kirsty Barquist Portfolio

I wanted to continue my last two reports on portfolio with one more paper based and one more digital portfolio. I wanted to go to the museum on Friday but i was feeling unwell and i was trying to organize the next time i could go but was struggling to find the time. Once a week i go round to my sisters to catch up and help her around the house if she needs it when i had an idea, why not look at her portfolio. Although i have seen her portfolio before i had not had her go through it with me and talk about it. The first thing i asked her is why her portfolio is paper based and why it is beneficial to her. Kirsty said that not only was it beneficial to when she applied to further her education it is, to her, a log and a creative line she was going down that she has now lost. This was very interesting to me because she was using her portfolio now completely for her own reasons, all the other portfolios i have looked at have been to sell, to apply for college or too show off work in some ...

Final images and mounting ideas

I first wanted to think about the images I am leaning towards for the end of this unit, I need to think about what ones I was to hand in and mount, I really like my panoramic images of food and I feel very excited about them. First I need to think about what ones I like the best and why... I really like these for their colours and texture ... but while we started preparing for our exams and adding too our portfolio with the theme "tool aid" I was taking photos and drawing images of kitchen tools I had an idea to take these style photographs of cutlery  I really liked this idea and it made me think about doing a series of a meal for my final images, knife, fork, food, teeth something like that. I will play around with the idea in my head and see what I come up with...

Panoramic macro review

I decided to take a step back and look at my panoramic images with the macro lens... i was unsure how to move forward. I asked a few people around me what they thought and i got some good feed back! Some people said that they look like paintings, i thought this was interesting but others said they looked like landscapes or reminded them of memories or objects. I liked the idea of this and decided to rotate some of them to look more like landscapes or scenes and let people see what they see in them... With this one i got a lot of people saying it looks like hills and the sky or the ocean with waves coming over it, i decided to flip it around and edit the contrast and highlight. I like this flipped around and i can see it is easy to see landscapes in this i decided to continue... This one i liked both ways but i did edit the contrast to make it a bit easier to see the overlapping colour and texture in this. I think this is interesting, i did not get...

Continuing with pano macro

Before i started my vegetables i did one more fruit as i was eating melon at the time... Melon  I think this turned out well i was trying to capture the texture of water and it being smooth but also having that grainy texture while eating it by moving my hands when taking the image. When i get back to college i am going to edit these and see if i can help express the colour or to just play around. I took the image below before this one, it didn't turn out how i wanted it but i really like it.  I love the separation in the middle and the two different colours on each side, i think it is visually pleasing because of the colours being quite nude but also contrasting in a way. It was a mistake but made me think about how i compose these images and how i want to express them. Cucumber Cucumber Cucumber These cucumber images i took all turned out differently and it was quite hard to capture it smiler too the water melon but i like h...

Caitlin Steele - Portfolio

Caitlin Steele came into college to show us her portfolio. Her portfolio was paper based with one digital piece, a Youtube video. Caitlin Steele is studying Fashion Communications. Her portfolio was very small, she was telling us it needs to be constantly updated, no older than two years. I thought this was completely different to the other portfolios we looked at because none of the other artists portfolio's we looked at mentioned keeping it up to date really.  I did not see her creative process in the same way as i did with the others and she did not have a sketch book, but she did have a brief description of the work on the back of it. Her work was passed around the room, i liked that i actually got to hold and really look at a piece of work rather than a photo of the work on a screen. Again i think this changes the mood or connection you make with the work. I think for the type of art Caitlin produced the printed portfolio works well. Her portfolio also contained...

Vegan food series.

I wanted to continue my cyanotype's but it has not been very sunny, i think it is something i will go back to ether for my photography unit, as i had a few ideas, Or i could keep it for future units.  Recently i have been living a vegan lifestyle and after i little slip up over the last month, i decided to get back on it. I thought about it and i wanted to do another series on something that i feel passionately about. Eating vegan food is my lifestyle and therefor is my world and my view.  One question i hear all the time, that really annoys me, is " If you vegan, what do you eat?". It is ether i genuine question, or a question that the person asking, dose not want an answer too. Before i was looking at macro photography, i really liked that as i enjoy the detail you get in a macro lens, but when i was at the Haining i really liked the panoramic images i could take on my phone, this got me thinking could i do macro panoramic photography? I looked it up but ...
