Client Expectations.

The brief I choose is on photography and is called ‘Reflecting your world’. It asked me to create a series of 12 images looking at the aspects of my region with emphasis on history, landscape or architecture. The brief also said I must include actual reflections. I decided my region was the town I lived in, Peebles, and decided to look into the town’s history, landscapes and architecture and how these are linked together. I wrote down a list of historical buildings and idea’s for reflection sources.  I then looked at other artists for inspiration; I looked at the works of M.C Esher. Esher’s work influenced my early stages of this unit and experimentation with a glass ball, how reflections work, and how to use them in  a scene that is already there. For example my images with sunglasses were influenced by Esher, having them set up on a wall or bench, rather than on a face. I also looked at a painter called Simon Hennessey who painted reflections in sunglasses. ...

Cyanotype

When my sister came into the college she said something that really stuck in my mind, " You don't need a camera to take a photograph". I really liked this idea and was looking into making my own camera when i came across something called Cyanotype, Cyanotype is a really old photographic printing process that produces prints using the sun, in a greenish-blue. I was so excited to try this i ordered Cyanotype paper to try this out as part of my photography unit. I think i want to do a series of images with these, the kit comes with 15 sheets of paper so i am going to use a few to try out and experiment with and then see where it takes me. I started by looking at artists that use Cyanotype and came across Anna Atkins who was an English botanist and photographer. She used cyanotype photography to record botanical specimens for a scientific book " British Algae:  Cyanotype  Impressions"  I really like how this looks, and decided to start with fl...

The Haining reflections

My class and me went to the Haining in Hawick again, this time to join some artists attending a workshop on reflections. We started by touring the grounds again and I decided to take some photos as it was a really nice, sunny day. I tried to keep the theme 'reflections' in my photos. I took some panoramic photos aswell, which was pretty fun and I think the images came out well. A class mate and me bumped into an artists called Dorian, who is a architecture tutor in Edinburgh. Dorian was working on a little project trying to capture the feeling of rain in the water with glass tubes reflecting the sun and suspending glass slabs with string. I helped by trying to attach string to the glass. It was really hard as the string was not strong enough to support the glass so unfortunately we ran out of time and had to leave before we could see the finial result, but I did grab a few photos and a video before we left. We then went back to...
