Contempory art .

I started looking at an artist called Yayoi Kusama. Kusama is a Japanese contemporary artist who works primarily in sculpture and installation. She is most well know for her sculptors / installations covered in dots. What first drew me to her work was just the size of it, and how many dots there are. I like how the viewer would see this work, i like that you can walk around it and interact with it. I wanted to try and paint dots myself. I started by grabbing some boxes around the class and painting onto them. I decided to use the primary colors at first but i found it to look so childish and i just didn't like it. I found painting these so therapeutic, just drifting into the land of dots and not thinking about anything else. I usually listen to music while i paint but i found myself not needing to at all because i was so engrossed in it. I wanted to start thinking about the theme of the unit. I was drawn to one theme - fragile. I wanted to think about that the...

Art Project. Digital Media.Contemporary Art

After making my moving collages I wanted to try something else, I wanted to take it to the next step and use moving image to play around with the idea of a moving collage. I decided to take a look at some Artists that use film. Tony Oursler is an American multimedia and installation artist. I really liked his work, I love the first two and the use of 3D mapping for the projections. But the last one I thought was really brilliant. His work stands out to me because it combines scultpor and film, it also has a lot of references to pop art and kitsch, which is the German word for trash. It is used to describe things that are in poor taste, cheap or tacky but appreciated in an ironic way. Jean PainlevĂ©  was a photographer and filmmaker who specialized in underwater fauna. I love the colours in this, I think it is so beautiful. I also like that it is a bit abstracted and you when you watch it you are just enjoying the visuals not questioning what it ...

Surface Decoration. Part 2

So once i had figured out what direction i wanted to go in for this unit i started to focus on an end result. I knew i wanted to make collages that are based around the theme rural, so animals, nature, scapes, woodland area's and present them in an urban setting. I decided to start by creating thought out rural collages. I wanted to start by thinking about animals you see in rural places and how that might translate in a rural setting. I first started thinking about the idea of transport. I then started playing around with figures and people, i looked a little at city fashion and shop windows. I then started thinking more about rural landscapes and forests and how i could make collages that included that kind of imagery.   I really like the first ones i made, i thought the imagery was really good and i wanted to see if these translated onto buildings well. Again i thought some of these worked and...
