Class Collage Finished

We all sat down and thought of a theme and how we wanted it to look and sketched it out. we then decided we wanted to make the back bigger so it didn't look like it was over crowded we then decided who wanted to do to what part and wrote it down helping eachother as we went on i painted the building grey with sponge after discussing it with everyone and Tasmin and Tamsin who were painting the other parts that connected with the building. We decided to make a window and have one looking out of it i made flowers for the window and helped make the window we then put it on the wall and we pinned the figures to the wall in the places we wanted. i also helped glue them down then we stood back and looked at the finished peace. very interesting to say the least. i love all the different styles of drawing and painting. We all worked well as a team and had alot of fun

Gavin Wood

an artist called Gavin Wood came to give us a talk on his work. he started on the same BETEC course as us but is now studying at Edinburgh college of art. his first work was inspired by horror films his work would show the moment of suspense just before something was about to happen. Gavin spoke about a few peaces he was inspired by one being Andy Warhol's Lazy making him think how lazy our brains are with processing what we think we see and what we actually see. He started creating work just using colours on canvases primed differently, some raw. i really liked how his work was about if your looking for a reason for it, your not going to find it, but if you spend time with the peace for what it is the more you will see and connect with his art. i am looking forward to seeing his work progress as he said he is always looking to change and move forward with his art.

Class drawing Progress

In class we were told we are going to make a class group photo using acetate, we all picked someone to draw and made a group decision on how we wanted everyone to be positioned. i chose Tamsin. after this we put it on a projector and scaled it up to A3. We were then told we can use whatever medium we want, and in whatever style but that it should express your feelings toward the course. i cleaned up the lines and thought about how i feel about this course, and i decided that it felt like a childish excitement, like a kid so excited with a lot of new toys. so i wanted to express that in a drawing using bring colours and squiggly/crazy lines.

Dada Collage part 2

I released i was trying to copy Hannah Hoch's    Das Schone Madchen/ beautiful girl collage instead of understanding it so i decided to research the artists and this peace of work i found out this is a photomontage made in the 1920's that deals with gender issues amidst the dawning of Germany’s New Woman. the hair and womans body is looking at beauty trends and expectations in women of that time and the Car parts are contrasting with the way society looks at women, even today. I started noting similarities in what i felt Hoch was trying to say was the modern women in the 20's and what is a modern woman today. trying to keep similar colours and tone, i chose a modern day hair style as well as a measuring tape and lipstick to suggest modern day female beauty standards, i chose the black and white woman at the top for minimalism but put the iconic 2015 brows over the top, i kept the BMW badge but c hanged it to the 2015 one as i felt their is still an ...

Dada Collage

In college we are looking at the Dada movement. Dadaism was a form of artistic anarchy born our of disgust for social, political and cultural values of the time.( 1916)  it was used in art, music, poetry, dance and politics.  we were asked to pick a dada collage and recreate it, i chose Hannah Hoch - The beautiful girl. looking more at the colour and shade rather than trying to create it exactly. i Chose this one for the 'Vintage' Colours and feel to it. i am starting with the BWM badges and trying to create the back ground first, i am going to try and find a vintage looking paper for the tea stained colour in the back and stick the BMW bandges onto another bit of paper to get that clean edge then build up from their tomorrow.

David Cass

David Cass is a scottish artist from Stow that graduated in 2010 from edinburgh College of art. David came to our college to show us some of his work. He showed us a serious of his work that he called Surface. He would find Objects like drawers, Match boxes, table tops and other items that he finds at antique shops, flee markets and skips or bins all over Europe and often France and paints on them with gouache paint.  http://www.davidcass.co.uk/index/ David told us about a project he worked on in Spain. Because of the lack of water the crops would die which inspired him to create " False  puddles" in the ground made of resin plastic, or planting mirrors to  symbolise  water, which he said was his "gift to the  field " he also did some work on forrest fires, and  historical  floods from this David created a few short films that can be watched on his blog  http://www.davidcass.co.uk/blog David spoke about how he funds his...

Egon Schiele

Been feeling very mixed the last few days, a very confusing mix of emotions and feelings. We have to produce a self portrait in the style of an artist of our choice for monday. i chose egon schiele, his art work really inspires me and i felt a connection to his portraits over the last few days. i just cant get his painting style correct a very interesting and different style but absolutely stunning. So much emotion and vulnerability.
